Fortunes have your company outlined what they are monitoring on your pc?
Legally UK companies can monitor pretty much everything digital BUT they must clearly outline to employees what they are doing. If they dont and they give you some sort of disciplinary due to stuff they find they are in pretty serious breach of both employee data protection and more general data protection.
I had a situation when i took on 6 apprentices to do digital marketing and development, turned out one of them just watched porn all day. I found out by checking his browsing history. Turn out I couldnt fire him, could only give him a verbal warning and explain his activities would be monitored moving forward.

Frankly I'd be surprised if it's as low as 40%.
My industry might be more stringent than some, but a full security screening is fairly standard now before anyone is hired, including a detailed internet/social media activity check. There are companies that specialise in this kind of analysis that are regularly used by many pharma firms to fully check people out.
As an example, a guy I knew was once found to have 'liked' something vaguely to do with animal rights. He was instantly refused employment at the place he had applied to.
Clearly there is a specific concern that animal rights activists may try to get a job with a pharma company to get inside. In his case it was just a moment of poor judgement, but there was no escaping it.

I've been told by a professional recruiter that 40% of UK employers check the social media records of at least some of their new hires. I some cases, that will just be executives, in others it will be all of the workforce.
I reckon it's probably higher in the US.

Some places monitor and store the sessions and only ever look at it if they're given a reason to. Like someone grassing you up for being a dickhead on your work laptop. Or general uselessness.

Honestly say the cost of monitoring specific activity would pretty much always outweigh the benefits. There are some freaks out there of course, but for the most part it just is easier to find ways to measure productivity than to get into watching keystrokes.

It's all possible. If hackers can record your sessions, log your keystrokes etc it's definitely possible that your employer can do these things - they own the device right?
SIEM doesn't really come into it, this is not their purpose.
Probably best not to do dodgy shit on a work laptop in this day and age.

It’s more, can they see what I’m actually doing…in excel or outlook.
And can they monitor key strokes of your keyboard?

I specifically stopped logging on to who on my work laptop for that reason - well, just the association with him and others and what gets posted.. My own laptop is off to the side of the work setup.

I have a work laptop too and make sure I do work and only work on it.
The odd bit of internet internet obviously but no logging into any persomal stuff. That stays on my own computer.

Depends how you are logging into your work network and, as wmc said, what logging the have on your employer's network.
They should tell you but some do not.
It can't hurt to ask.

using it at home may be fine, but if your company uses Siem, they will be be to analyze your actvivity the moment you connect the laptop to your companies network

I wouldn’t use internet on my work laptop, so that’s not an issue.
But if I have something on the space bar whilst in an excel work book pretending to work , can that be seen?
